On Saturday, Mehbooba Mufti, the President of the Jammu and Kashmir Peoples Democratic Party (JKPDP), has declared the immediate dissolution of the party’s entire organizational structure.
During a press briefing at the party headquarters in Srinagar on Friday, party officials announced a significant shift in response to the recent assembly elections.
Sources indicate that party leaders will establish new office bearers and various party wings and bodies after consulting with senior members.
This restructuring aims to realign the party’s strategy and approach following the electoral outcomes.
The announcement comes shortly after the Union Territory’s assembly elections, which took place on 8 October.
Happy With The Way People Voted: Mehbooba Mufti
In her statement, Mufti extended her congratulations to the National Conference-Congress alliance for securing a clear mandate from the electorate.
She stated, “I am happy with the way people have voted. ‘Gadbad karna ka koi chance nahi hai ab’ (there is no chance to mess around now). It seemed like if the mandate wasn’t clear, dirty tricks could have been used to defeat the people’s will.”
In the recent elections, the National Conference emerged as the dominant party, winning 42 seats, followed by the Bharatiya Janata Party with 29 seats, the Congress with 6, and the JKPDP securing just 3 seats.
Mufti acknowledged the significance of these results. She highlighted the necessity for a stable government in Jammu and Kashmir, particularly in light of the challenges faced by the region since 5 August 2019.
During a press conference, Mufti asserted, “I congratulate the National Conference-Congress leadership; they have won spectacularly. I also want to congratulate the people of Jammu and Kashmir for voting for a stable government. The situation in Jammu and Kashmir had been dire since August 5, 2019, and people faced numerous problems. Forming a stable government was essential.”
Mufti also took a moment to express gratitude to the party’s leaders and workers for their relentless efforts during the election campaign, despite facing numerous obstacles.
She urged them to remain steadfast and not lose hope amid these challenging times.
The assembly elections for the 90 seats in Jammu and Kashmir were conducted in three phases on 18 September, 26 September, and 1 October.
