In an ambitious initiative spearheaded by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the city of Prayagraj is undergoing a stunning transformation in anticipation of Maha Kumbh 2025.
The government aims to turn the city into a vibrant canvas showcasing the rich tapestry of Sanatan culture, as artisans across the region work tirelessly to adorn the city’s walls with intricate murals and symbols of faith.
Spanning over 10 lakh square feet, this artistic endeavor involves a diverse group of local and national artists who are collaborating to reflect the spiritual essence of the region.
Day and night, these craftsmen are breathing life into the city’s walls, creating a visual narrative that resonates with the profound significance of devotion and cultural heritage.
Leading the charge is Archana Jadhav, who arrived in Prayagraj earlier this month with a team of 70 artists.
Expressing her gratitude for this visionary project, Archana noted, “This initiative not only beautifies the city but also brings the community together in a shared celebration of our heritage.”
Her team is focusing on various art forms, including mural painting, 3D art, and traditional Madhubani art.
Among their ambitious projects are 108 dancing postures of Nataraja, as well as depictions from the entire Ramayana, showcasing iconic figures like Lord Ram, Mata Sita, and Hanuman.
Fine Arts Students & Deaf Youth Collaborate For Kumbh Cultural Revival
In a unique collaboration, Fine Arts students and deaf and mute youth are also contributing to this cultural revival, ensuring inclusivity in this creative process.
Archana aims to complete the artworks by the end of November, ensuring that they are ready for the influx of devotees expected for the Maha Kumbh.
Adding to this cultural initiative, Amit Darastwar from Pune leads a team of ten artists focusing on painting symbols deeply rooted in Sanatan culture.
Their work features realistic portrayals of Ganga Mata, various animals, and representations of sadhus, alongside musical instruments and significant Hindu symbols.
His team has already completed several breathtaking murals at the Mela Authority office, and are continuing to transform flyovers and pillars with depictions of the Samudra Manthan and the Sapt Rishi.
Archana Jadhav has shared insights into the longevity of their artwork, explaining that the paintings can remain vibrant for up to two years if not subjected to damage, and potentially last five years with proper care.
This emphasizes the initiative’s commitment to sustainable art that preserves cultural narratives.
Young artists involved, such as Archana, Amit, Anamika, Subhashna, and Neha, express excitement about the impact their work will have on visitors.
“When devotees arrive for Maha Kumbh, vibrant depictions of our culture will welcome them, showcasing scenes from the Ramayana and symbols of our deities,” they said.
This artistic endeavor follows the successful Jai Gange mural project during the Ardh Kumbh in 2019, which saw thousands participating in creating a piece later recognized by the Guinness Book of Records.
With Maha Kumbh-2025 on the horizon, Prayagraj is likely to become a cultural beacon, drawing devotees from across the globe to witness this celebration of faith and artistry.
