Maneka Gandhi

Former Union Minister Maneka Gandhi has filed a petition in the Supreme Court challenging the election of Samajwadi Party MP Ram Bhual Nishad from the Sultanpur seat in Uttar Pradesh. The Supreme Court is expected to hear the case on September 20.

In her petition, Gandhi alleges that Nishad provided false information in his election affidavit. She claims that 12 criminal cases are registered against him, while he only disclosed 8. Gandhi describes this omission as corrupt conduct and demands the cancellation of Nishad’s election.

Previous Rejection by High Court

The Lucknow Bench of the Allahabad High Court previously rejected Maneka Gandhi’s petition. The court ruled that her petition violated the time limit specified under the Representation of the People Act. According to the court, Gandhi filed her petition 7 days after the 45-day limit for such challenges had expired.
