Atishi Set To Become Delhi’s Next Chief Minister As Kejriwal Steps Down

The uncertainty over Delhi’s next Chief Minister seems resolved, with Atishi now favored to succeed Arvind Kejriwal.

The uncertainty surrounding Delhi’s next Chief Minister appears to have been resolved, with Atishi emerging as the favored successor to Arvind Kejriwal, according to recent developments within the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP).

In a pivotal legislature party meeting this morning, AAP’s top leadership reportedly endorsed Atishi for the role of Delhi Chief Minister.

This move has received unanimous support from all party MLAs, signaling a strong endorsement for her elevation.

An official announcement about Atishi’s appointment will come shortly, with a press conference scheduled for noon today.

Atishi, who currently serves as Delhi’s only female minister, has been a key figure in the AAP government.

She holds several important portfolios, including Education, Power, Public Works Department (PWD), and Services.

Her rise to the top position comes at a time when she has been a prominent face of the government, especially in the aftermath of the liquor-gate scandal that led to the incarceration of the party’s top leaders, including Kejriwal and the Deputy Chief Minister.

Reports indicate that the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) proposed Atishi’s name during a meeting held at Arvind Kejriwal’s residence last night.

The consensus within the party supports her appointment as the new Chief Minister.

In response to the news, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has criticized the AAP’s leadership decisions, accusing the party of fostering a ‘dictatorial’ culture.

A BJP spokesperson remarked that Atishi may merely serve as a ‘puppet’ chief minister under Kejriwal’s influence.

The transition comes amid ongoing legal challenges for Kejriwal, who, despite facing severe allegations, had decided to step down from his position.

The Supreme Court, while granting bail, has imposed restrictions on Kejriwal, including barring him from visiting the Delhi Secretariat and signing official documents.
