In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the rape and murder of a junior doctor from RG Kar Medical College & Hospital, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has taken new steps to advance their case, including collecting key evidence.
The CBI collected the teeth impression of Sanjay Roy, a civic volunteer arrested in connection with the crime.
On Wednesday evening, a team of CBI officials arrived at the Presidency Central Correctional Home in South Kolkata to gather crucial evidence.
As part of a broader effort to solidify the case, the CBI collected a teeth impression from Roy, initially apprehended by Kolkata Police’s special investigation team.
The CBI’s investigation currently focuses on confirming whether Roy acted alone or if others played a role in the rape and murder of the doctor.
This move comes amid growing scrutiny over potential shortcomings in the initial investigation conducted by city police.
Concerns have raised about inconsistencies in the post-mortem report, subpar videography of the autopsy, and discrepancies in the victim’s clothing details and seizure list.
The investigation also aims to determine whether these lapses were due to negligence or intentional attempts to mislead the probe.
Last week, Governor CV Ananda Bose criticized the Kolkata Police’s handling of the case, further underscoring the need for a thorough review.
Sanjay Roy’s judicial custody was recently extended by 14 days by a special court in Kolkata.
As the CBI delves deeper into the case, they continue to assess the implications of these findings and their impact on the ongoing investigation.
