On Tuesday, Congress MP Manish Tewari submitted a notice for an adjournment motion in the Lok Sabha to address the escalating crisis in Bangladesh and its potential impact on India.

In his notice, Tewari requested the suspension of Zero Hour and the relevant rules pertaining to Question Hour and other legislative business.

He emphasized the urgency of discussing the political turmoil in Bangladesh and its implications for India.

Tewari highlighted the recent resignation of Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid intense unrest, noting that Hasina’s departure and subsequent asylum request in the UK could have significant repercussions for India’s strategic interests.

He also urged the Indian government to provide a detailed update on the measures taken to manage the security, economic, and diplomatic fallout from the crisis.

In response to the deteriorating situation, Foreign Minister S Jaishankar convened an all-party meeting to discuss the ramifications of the Sheikh Hasina government’s collapse and the subsequent military takeover.

The meeting was attended by key officials, including Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju.

Jaishankar however briefed party leaders on the Indian government’s response and the ongoing situation in Bangladesh.

Reports indicate that over 100 people have died in the recent violence, underscoring the gravity of the crisis.

Sheikh Hasina, who resigned on Monday following unprecedented anti-government protests, is currently in Delhi after fleeing Bangladesh and seeking asylum abroad.
