On Friday, Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh paid solemn tribute to the courageous soldiers who made the ultimate sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.

Singh’s tribute, marking the 25th anniversary of the conflict, highlighted the enduring legacy of these heroes and their role in inspiring future generations of Indians.

In a heartfelt message posted on X, Singh remarked, “Today, on 25th anniversary of #KargilVijayDiwas, we remember the indomitable spirit and courage of the brave soldiers who fought valiantly in 1999 war. Their unwavering commitment, valour and patriotism ensured that our country remained safe and secure. Their service and sacrifice will continue to inspire every Indian and our coming generations.”

The Kargil War, which unfolded over three intense months, saw the Indian Army, supported by the Air Force, expel Pakistani forces from the rugged terrains of Northern Kargil District in Ladakh.

This operation is recognized as one of the most formidable military engagements in India’s history.

The conflict claimed the lives of over 500 soldiers, whose bravery has become a symbol of national pride.

PM Modi To Pay Respects At Kargil War Memorial

Prime Minister Narendra Modi is likely to pay his respects at the Kargil War Memorial, with heightened security measures in place for the occasion.

Earlier on Thursday, taking to X, PM Modi emphasized the significance of 26 July.

PM Modi posted, “Tomorrow, 26th July, is a very special day for every Indian. We will mark the 25th Kargil Vijay Diwas. It is a day to pay homage to all those who protect our nation. I will visit the Kargil War Memorial and pay tributes to our brave heroes. Work will also commence for the Shinkun La Tunnel Project. This project is important to improve connectivity to Leh, especially during bad weather.”

The Shinkun La Tunnel Project, likely to begin on the anniversary, is to bolster connectivity in the region, reinforcing logistical support for both military and civilian purposes.
