The squad, which includes the T20 World Cup champions, their support staff, several BCCI officials, and the players’ families, has been stranded in Barbados following the impact of Hurricane Beryl. The hurricane made landfall on the island on Sunday evening, causing significant disruptions.
Initially, the World Cup-winning team was scheduled to depart from Barbados on Monday at 11 AM local time (8:30 PM IST). However, their departure was postponed due to the hurricane, which escalated from a category 3 to a category 5 storm, making travel unsafe and necessitating further delays.
India’s premier batter Virat Kohli was seen on a video call on one of the hotel’s open balconies as strong winds blew through the ocean in front. Meanwhile, the Category 4 hurricane hit the Caribbean islands in the odd hours of Monday, thus delaying its departure back home by at least another day.
Despite their stuck in Barbados, the team remains in good spirits and is looking forward to returning to India amidst the celebratory enthusiasm awaiting their arrival.
