Kerala CM Pinarayi Vijayan criticized  BJP-led NDA government in the centre for breaking parliamentary convention. The tradition makes senior most leader Pro Tem speaker.

Suresh kept his position in the Mavelikara Lok Sabha, which is designated for members of the Scheduled Caste.

“The BJP needs to provide an explanation for why Kodikunnil Suresh, the most senior member of the Lok Sabha and currently serving in his ninth term, was not appointed Pro Tem Speaker. CM Vijayan stated, “Those who have voiced worries about whether the Sangh Parivar’s policies of appeasing the upper caste have come into play need to have their questions answered.

This demonstrates unequivocally the BJP’s conceit and the little regard it has for tradition. Throughout the last legislative session, there was not a Deputy Speaker in the Lok Sabha. All of this demonstrates unequivocally how the BJP views democracy, CM Vijayan declared.

As the state minister for SC/ST, Devasoms, and Parliamentary Affairs, Radhakrishnan is a member of the SC community. After being elected to the Lok Sabha, he resigned, but Kelu was merely given the portfolio for the SC/ST.

Kerala BJP President, Surendran said that Kelu has been marginalised simply because he is a member of the tribal community. He further said the action demonstrates the CPI’s mentality (M).

However, social media approached the matter in a different way, questioning why PA Mohammed Riyas, a first-time legislator, was awarded the prestigious Public Works Department portfolio although Kelu is a two-time member.

Riyas is, incidentally, CM Vijayan’s son-in-law.
