The White House announced on Friday that US President Joe Biden will welcome Jordan’s King Abdullah II next week, while discussions for a truce in Gaza continue.

Without providing the encounter’s date, White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre stated that the US President meeting would be private, followed by a readout.

The meeting comes against the backdrop of negotiations for a deal to release captives and secure a ceasefire between Israel and Hamas in Gaza after nearly seven months of war.

The negotiations, which follow months of efforts by mediators Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach a new accord between the combatants, are at a critical stage.

The US has urged the Palestinian operating group to accept the extraordinarily generous offer.

On Friday, Hamas accused Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of attempting to torpedo the proposed Gaza deal by threatening to launch an operation in Rafah.

King Abdullah II last visited the White House in February, when he urged an immediate ceasefire and warned that an attack on Rafah would result in a humanitarian catastrophe.

Jordan collaborated with the United States and other allies in April to shoot down Iranian drones sent toward Israel to avoid a wider conflict.
