Swedish Woman Searches for Birth Mother in Nagpur, Amidst Emotional Quest

Patricia Eriksson, a 41-year-old woman from Sweden, has embarked on a poignant journey in Nagpur, India, in search of her biological mother, who relinquished her for adoption four decades ago. Born in Daga Hospital in Nagpur in February 1983, Eriksson was adopted by a Swedish couple a year later.

This marks Eriksson’s second visit to Nagpur, where she encounters challenges but remains resolute in her quest to reunite with her birth mother. While deeply appreciative of her adoptive parents, Eriksson yearns to establish a connection with her biological roots. Assisting her in this emotional pursuit is Anjali Pawar.

When asked about her realization that her adoptive mother wasn’t her biological parent, Eriksson reflected on how classmates’ discussions about familial resemblances prompted her own curiosity. Feeling disconnected from her adoptive family’s physical traits, she was compelled to seek out her biological origins, hoping for a meaningful reunion.

Advocate Anjali Pawar, aiding Eriksson in her search, appeals to the community for assistance. She urges anyone familiar with the residents of Shantinagar in 1983, particularly those acquainted with Shanta and Ramdas, to step forward and aid in Eriksson’s quest.

Eriksson’s pursuit echoes similar stories of international adoptees seeking their biological parents in India. In December of the previous year, Vidhya Philippon, a Swiss woman, embarked on a similar journey in Mumbai. Despite a decade-long search, Philippon’s only lead remains her mother’s last name and address, now defunct.

Philippon, born on February 8, 1996, was left at the Missionaries of Charity by her mother before being adopted by a Swiss couple in 1997. Her journey underscores the shared experiences of adoptees seeking to reconcile their pasts and connect with their origins.
