Models present creations by Michael Kors during New York Fashion Week.
Designer Michael Kors unveiled his Fall-Winter 2024 collection at the iconic Barney’s Department store in Manhattan’s Chelsea, setting the stage for a star-studded affair during New York Fashion Week. Among the luminaries in attendance were actors Blake Lively, Katie Holmes, Rachel Zegler, Brie Larson, and Gabrielle Union, as well as Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour and recording artist Kelsea Ballerini.
Before the show, Kors shared his vision for the collection with The Associated Press, emphasizing his mission to instill confidence in people during tumultuous times. Reflecting on his late mother Joan Kors’s influence, he drew inspiration from his grandmother’s 1930s wedding gown, finding its timeless elegance surprisingly modern. This led him to explore the glamour of old Hollywood, drawing from icons like Carole Lombard and Jean Harlow, as well as the classic tomboy style epitomized by Marlene Dietrich and Katharine Hepburn.
The collection unveiled amidst a mirrored lobby, showcased an array of tweed jackets, double-breasted coats, slit skirts, and sequined dresses. Kors’s signature comfort-meets-sensuality aesthetic was evident throughout, with cashmere turtleneck sweaters, thick eyewear, and slender bags complementing the looks. While black dominated the color palette, Kors also experimented with warm tones like cappuccino and chocolate, as well as metallics like gunmetal.
Emphasizing inclusivity, Kors featured models of various ages and sizes, ensuring that everyone could feel their best self in his designs. As he expressed, it’s not just about wearing something skintight; it’s about comfort and confidence. The collection aimed to empower individuals to greet the day with poise and style, embodying the essence of timeless elegance and modern allure.
