Champai Soren, the leader of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha legislative party, met with Governor CP Radhakrishnan on Thursday, urging the initiation of the state government formation process. After the meeting, Champai Soren stated, “We have demanded that the process to start the formation of the government should begin,” and the Governor assured that it would commence soon.
Champai Soren was elected as the leader of the JMM legislature party on Wednesday following Hemant Soren’s resignation as chief minister, leading to his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate over a money laundering case. The Governor invited Champai Soren to Raj Bhavan for discussions.
Expressing readiness to form the government, Champai Soren mentioned that his party submitted documents confirming the support of 47 MLAs. “We yesterday handed over a letter of support from 43 MLAs to the governor. Now we have the support of 47 legislators,” he noted, emphasizing the wait for an invitation despite the usual promptness in other states.
Amid the uncertainty surrounding the government formation, concerns about poaching prompted the JMM-led alliance lawmakers to relocate to Hyderabad potentially. A chartered flight was said to be arranged for this move to Congress-ruled Telangana, with the decision based on political considerations and proximity to Ranchi, ensuring a quicker return if needed, according to an anonymous JMM leader.
