Mohammed Shami acknowledges PM Modi
In a disheartening turn of events, the Indian men’s cricket team faced defeat in the ODI World Cup final held in Ahmedabad on Sunday (Nov 19), leaving fans across the country somber. Prime Minister Narendra Modi, present at the match, visited the Indian dressing room to console the players.
Indian pacer Mohammed Shami, the tournament’s highest wicket-taker, expressed gratitude on social media, posting a photo of himself hugging PM Modi and acknowledging the support from fellow Indians. Teammate Ravindra Jadeja also shared a message, stating their heartbreak and appreciating PM Modi’s motivating visit.

PM Modi, acknowledging the team’s efforts, took to X (formerly Twitter) after the loss, praising the Indian team for bringing pride and joy to the nation. During the presentation ceremony, Modi, alongside Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister Richard Marles, handed the World Cup trophy to winning captain Pat Cummins.

Despite being the standout team in the tournament, India faltered in the final, with the batting lineup struggling against the Australian bowlers who capitalized on the dry and slow pitch. While Indian bowlers offered a glimmer of hope, Australia, led by Travis Head and Marnus Labuschange, secured their sixth World title. The loss adds to India’s prolonged quest for a major ICC trophy, intensifying the disappointment for fans and players alike.
