London Mayor Sadiq Khan
A social media post purporting to depict the mayor of London suggesting pro-Palestinian marches should take priority over Armistice Day events is phony, a spokesman for the mayor stated.
The social media video could exacerbate tensions in the capital, just a day before a big pro-Palestinian march set to commemorate the end of World War One.
The march has been described as provocative by Prime Minister Rishi Sunak.
Far-right groups have hinted that they will protect the Cenotaph war memorial on Saturday, Armistice Day, raising fears of violent clashes.
“The Met (London’s Police) and their counter-terror experts are aware of this fake video that is being circulated and amplified on social media by far-right groups and is actively investigating”, said a spokesperson for London Mayor Sadiq Khan.
