Late Saturday, a north-central weather station in Vietnam reported a record high temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius (111.38 degrees Fahrenheit), breaking a previous high established in 2019.
For much of April, South Asia has been roasting in a heatwave, with bordering countries also experiencing record temperatures.
The weather in Vietnam varies from north to south, but the entire country is now in the midst of its hottest summer months.
The National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reported a record temperature of 44.1 degrees Celsius measured Saturday afternoon at the indoor Hoi Xuan station in north-central Thanh Hoa province.

The temperature surpassed the previous high of 43.4 degrees Celsius, set on April 20, 2019, in Huong Khe District, central Ha Tinh Province.
A climate change expert, Nguyen Ngoc Huy said, “This is a worrying record in the context of climate change and global warming”.
“I believe this record will be broken many times”, he predicted.
He further said, “It demonstrates that extreme climate models are correct”.
Scientists believe that global warming is aggravating severe weather, with the UN’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change saying that every increment of global warming will intensify multiple and concurrent hazards.
