The United States has issued a strong warning to Iran, stating that its energy infrastructure could face military strikes if negotiations fail to produce an agreement.
Speaking at a Pentagon briefing, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth confirmed that American forces remain fully prepared to escalate beyond the ongoing naval blockade. He stated that critical sectors, including power generation and energy facilities, remain potential targets if Tehran makes adverse decisions.
Hegseth emphasised that while Washington prefers diplomacy, military options remain active and can be executed immediately under presidential orders.
Air Force General Dan Caine, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, and Admiral Bradley Cooper, Commander of US Central Command, joined him. They reiterated that forces remain on high alert.
The warning follows the enforcement of a naval blockade targeting Iranian ports and coastlines under Operation Epic Fury.
Officials stated that the blockade has already disrupted Iran’s economic lifelines, particularly energy exports.
Hegseth described the blockade as a measured alternative to direct strikes but clarified that escalation remains a viable course if talks collapse.
Military leaders confirmed that despite a temporary ceasefire, operational readiness remains at peak levels.
Caine stated that forces can resume full-scale combat operations at immediate notice.
The Pentagon also noted that recent engagements have significantly weakened Iran’s command and control capabilities, although the country retains incentives to avoid renewed conflict.
Admiral Cooper added that US forces continue to rearm, refine tactics, and coordinate closely with regional allies, including Gulf nations and Israel, strengthening collective defence preparedness across the region.
