The United States has started flying surveillance drones over Gaza in pursuit of captives captured by Hamas when the Palestinian group assaulted Israel on October 7, 2023.

According to US officials, the US was flying intelligence-gathering drones over Gaza to help with hostage rescue efforts. One of the officers stated that the drone flights had been ongoing for more than a week.

US officials stated that 10 Americans who have gone missing may be among the more than 200 people abducted as hostages into Gaza and imprisoned in Hamas’ extensive tunnel network.

On Thursday, Israeli soldiers encircled Gaza City, in their assault on Hamas, which responded with hit-and-run operations from underground tunnels.

The city in northern Gaza has become a target for Israel, which has pledged to destroy the Islamist group’s command structure and has warned inhabitants to leave to the south.

As per the Israeli officials, Hamas fighters conducted a surprise raid into Israel on October 7, killing 1,400 people, largely civilians, in the nation’s 75-year history.

Gaza health authorities stated that Israel’s retaliatory shelling and ground offensive on the small Palestinian territory of 2.3 million has killed at least 9,061 Palestinians.
