The US has been told that Russia is willing to resume talks on a deal that would have allowed Ukraine to ship grain safely over the Black Sea, but “we haven’t seen any evidence of that yet”, the US representative to the UN said on Tuesday.
On July 17, Russia backed out of the agreement. Linda Thomas-Greenfield, the United States Ambassador to the United Nations, stated that if Russia wants to get its fertilizer to global markets and facilitate agricultural transactions, “they’re going to have to return to this deal”.
“We have seen indications that they may be willing to resume discussions. So we’ll have to wait and see if that happens”, she remarked, without going into greater detail.
