To mark their 50th wedding anniversary, a farmer in the United States plants 1.5 million sunflowers on 80 acres of land.
Lee Wilson told the local media that he made the gift as a surprise gift for his wife, Renee, who loves sunflowers.
Mr. Wilson enlisted the help of his son to surreptitiously plant the crop in May. In terms of flower count and land area, 15,000 sunflowers are planted per acre.
“Well, Our 50th wedding anniversary is August 10th, and you know what a guy gets his gal for the 50th?” Mr. Wilson stated.
“And I put a lot of thought into it and she always liked sunflowers”, he added.
They have known each other since high school.
“It made me feel very special. It couldn’t have been a more perfect anniversary gift than a field of sunflowers”, Renee explained.
Crowds have been going to the field to view the gorgeous sight and take photos since word of Mr. Wilson’s wonderful effort circulated.
Sunflowers are native to North and South America, according to Encyclopaedia Britannica, and certain varieties are cultivated as ornamentals for their stunning size and bloom heads, as well as their edible seeds.
They reach a height of roughly 1-4.5 metres and have coarsely toothed teeth. The leaves (3-12 inches long) are spirally organized.
The disk blooms are brown, yellow, or purple, with yellow petal-like ray flowers. It gets its scientific name from the Greek words helios (sun) and anthos (flower).
