Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky ruled out negotiations with Russia on Friday while meeting with an African delegation.
“I clearly stated several times during our meeting that allowing any negotiations with Russia now that the occupier is on our land is to freeze the war, to freeze pain and suffering”, Zelensky said after meeting with several leaders, including South Africa’s Cyril Ramaphosa.
On Saturday, the delegation will meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
They arrived in Kyiv on a mission to mediate peace, first visiting the nearby village of Bucha, where Russian troops have been accused of massacring people.

After they arrived on Friday morning, air raid sirens wailed across Ukraine, and the air force claimed to have shot down 12 Russian missiles.
According to Zelensky, Russia’s missile strike on Kyiv during the African delegation’s visit demonstrated that Putin did not manage Russia’s army or was irrational, adding that Putin wants to fully destroy the state of Ukraine.
Zelensky accused Russia of successfully freezing the Ukraine conflict after annexing the Crimean peninsula in 2014, saying that Kyiv will not allow Moscow to do it again.
