UK Minister Cameron Appeals to US Congress for Approval of Ukraine Aid

In order to support Kyiv’s fight against Russian soldiers, British Foreign Secretary David Cameron asked US legislators to approve new aid for Ukraine on Thursday.

“I have no concerns regarding the bravery, strength, togetherness, or consensus of the Ukrainian people. “I’m concerned that we may not take the necessary action,” Cameron said at the US capital’s Aspen Security Forum.

“We’ve got to make sure we give them the weapons, the economic support, the moral support, the diplomatic support, but crucially, that military support that can make a difference.” Former British prime minister David Cameron was in Washington for the first time as a formal visitor since being appointed foreign secretary.

Following his discussion with US Secretary of State Antony Blinken later that day, Cameron emphasized the importance of supporting “Ukraine in every way we can to resist (Russian President Vladimir) Putin’s illegal invasion.”

In spite of the fact that the Ukrainian counteroffensive has mainly failed to breach Russian defenses, he continued, there “has been progress.” The West’s decision to keep providing Ukraine with enormous aid has been questioned in light of the offensive. “If you actually stand back and look at the overall picture of what’s happening between Ukraine and Russia, it is a massive defeat for Putin,” he stated.

A White House request for $106 billion in emergency help, mostly for Israel and Ukraine, was vetoed by the US Senate on Wednesday. President Joe Biden suffered a blow. He had pleaded with Congress to authorize the cash, threatening to invade a NATO country and threatening to keep going if Putin won the conflict in Ukraine.

Cameron declared, “We ought to give this money to the Ukrainians.” “We should back them and make sure that it’s Putin that loses because if that money doesn’t get voted through, there are only two people that will be smiling.”

“The other one is Xi Jinping in Beijing,” according to Cameron, and one of them is Putin. “And, I don’t know about you, but I’d prefer not to give Christmas presents to any of those individuals.”
