Typhoon Bebinca, the 13th typhoon of the year, made landfall in Shanghai at 7:30 AM on Monday. With winds reaching 42 meters per second, Bebinca is the most powerful typhoon to strike Shanghai in 75 years. The storm hit the Lingang area of Pudong district, bringing severe gales and heavy rainfall.
In response to the typhoon, Shanghai authorities have advised residents to stay indoors. The storm has led to flight cancellations, suspended passenger ferry services, and halted several train routes through the city. Shanghai Disneyland, Disneytown, and Wishing Star Park are closed, although resort hotels remain operational.

Before the typhoon arrived, Shanghai’s Yangshan freight port was shut, and additional accommodations were provided for truck drivers at a “drivers’ home” near the port. Medical facilities are busy handling emergencies; Shanghai First Maternity and Infant Hospital has rescheduled regular checks but remains open for urgent cases.
As Bebinca moves through Jiangsu Province, the city of Taicang reported winds reaching level 13, with a maximum speed of 37.5 meters per second. Authorities have relocated 46,300 people and brought over 20,000 vessels to safety.
Traffic controls are in effect, with several subway sections and bridges closed across Jiangsu. Fishing activities have been postponed, and local meteorologists expect the typhoon to weaken as it moves northwest towards Nanjing and Anhui Province.
