As the military builds up circling Iran intensified in the Middle East, US President Donald Trump is reportedly preparing for a major but limited military action against Tehran, involving military raids and special forces operations.
The plan under consideration seeks to weaken Iran’s nuclear ambitions and destabilise its leadership without triggering a full-scale invasion or prolonged conflict.
According to reports, the strategy focuses on precision strikes and high-risk ground missions designed to deliver a decisive blow while avoiding a broader war in the Middle East.
As reported by The New York Times, the Trump administration is examining plans to secretly deploy US Special Forces into Iranian territory to destroy or disable remaining nuclear facilities that survived the June 2025 attacks.
The proposal includes rapid aerial strikes on Iran’s nuclear and ballistic missile facilities, combined with short-duration ground operations carried out by elite American units.
The objective is to generate widespread disruption inside Iran, potentially destabilising the clerical establishment and opening the door to leadership or regime change, according to the report. The US troops involved would reportedly enter Iranian soil, carry out their mission, and withdraw swiftly.
Trump Signals For Talks, But Military Option Open
Despite the reported preparations, Trump has publicly stated that he wants to avoid military confrontation with Iran. He has said that talks with Tehran are ongoing, even as Washington ramps up its military presence in the region.
Previously warning that time was ‘running out’ for Iran as the US dispatched a large naval fleet to the area, Trump left open the possibility of avoiding armed conflict. When asked whether he would engage in talks with Tehran, Trump told reporters, “I have spoken, and I am planning to do so.”
He further said, “We have a group that is going to a place called Iran, and hopefully we won’t have to use it,” underscoring that while diplomatic channels remain open, military options are firmly on the table.
