President Donald Trump has claimed that inflation in the United States has been brought under control and that the country’s southern border is now fully secured, as he laid out his economic and political narrative ahead of the midterm elections.
Speaking in Iowa on Tuesday, Trump called the past year an unprecedented economic recovery with a dramatic turnaround.
He said the US economy was expanding rapidly, with rising incomes and growing global respect.
Trump highlighted tariffs as driving industrial growth, boosting manufacturing and attracting record investment.
He claimed the United States now leads globally in capital inflows, describing the trend as historic.
He also pointed to stock market performance since the election, claiming dozens of record highs and trillions of dollars added to savings and retirement accounts.
Trump contrasted this with what he described as weak investment growth under the previous administration.
Tax Proposals and Worker Outreach
Promoting what he called a major legislative package, Trump underscored proposals to exempt tips, overtime pay and Social Security income from taxation.
Service industry workers joined him on stage, sharing personal accounts of how such measures could benefit their livelihoods.
Trade and farming featured prominently in the address. Trump claimed his administration had sharply reduced the trade deficit and secured new export commitments from key partners.
These included expanded ethanol exports to Japan and the UK, market access for American beef in Australia, and large soybean purchases by China. He also said the European Union would increase imports of US agricultural products.
Addressing farmers, Trump said tariff revenues had enabled billions of dollars in farm relief. He pledged swift approval of legislation supporting year-round E15 ethanol sales.
Immigration and public safety formed another central pillar of Trump’s speech.
He said the southern border was now closed to illegal crossings, while legal entry continued.
He also claimed record declines in crime, including murders and drug overdose deaths, and noted the designation of drug cartels as foreign terrorist organisations.
Citing opinion polls, Trump argued that public support favoured Republican positions on the economy, immigration and crime.
He urged supporters to secure victories in the House and Senate, warning that electoral losses could derail tax cuts and other priorities.
He concluded by declaring a renewed national momentum, asserting that the country had regained economic strength, security and confidence.
