Tragic Passing Of Former Miss World Contestant Sherika De Armas At Age 26

Former Miss World Contestant Sherika De Armas, who proudly represented Uruguay in the Miss World competition back in 2015, tragically passed away on October 13, 2023, at the tender age of 26 after a valiant battle with cervical cancer, as reported by the New York Post. Ms. De Armas had exhibited immense strength, undergoing rigorous chemotherapy and radiotherapy treatments in her fight against this devastating disease.

Her untimely demise sent shockwaves throughout Uruguay and resonated with people worldwide. Her brother, Mayk’ De Armas, paid a heartfelt tribute to his sister on social media, saying, “Fly high, little sister. Always and forever.” Miss Universe Uruguay 2022, Carla Romero, mourned the loss, describing Ms. De Armas as “too evolved for this world” and “one of the most beautiful women I have ever met in my life.”

Lola de los Santos, Miss Uruguay 2021, also fondly remembered Sherika De Armas, emphasizing not only the support she received but also her warmth, joy, and the enduring friendships they shared.

Despite not making it into the top 30 in the 2015 Miss World contest held in China, Sherika De Armas left a lasting impression as she was among the few 18-year-olds to grace the pageant with her presence.

In an interview with NetUruguay during that time, she expressed her aspirations of becoming a model, whether it be in beauty, advertising, or on the catwalk. She was deeply passionate about the world of fashion and considered participating in Miss Universe as a dream come true, filled with exhilarating challenges.

Outside of her modeling career, Sherika De Armas ventured into entrepreneurship by launching her makeup line and offering various products related to hair and personal care under the banner of “Shey de Armas Studio.”

Furthermore, Sherika dedicated her time and efforts to the Perez Scremini Foundation, an organization focused on providing care and support to children battling cancer.

Cervical cancer, according to the World Health Organization, stands as the fourth most common cancer among women. Their website stresses the importance of effective prevention methods, including primary prevention through HPV vaccination and secondary prevention through screening and treating precancerous lesions. This approach has the potential to significantly reduce the number of cervical cancer cases globally, as highlighted by the WHO in 2018 when an estimated 570,000 women were diagnosed with cervical cancer, resulting in around 311,000 tragic deaths from the disease.
