The 2023 Nobel Peace Prize has been given to Iranian human rights activist Narges Mohammadi for her efforts to end gender inequality. Even when she becomes the 19th woman to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, she is still incarcerated.

The Norwegian Nobel Committee declared that Narges Mohammadi would get the 2023 Nobel Peace Prize “for her fight against the oppression of women in Iran and her fight to promote human rights and freedom for all.”

The Nobel Prize website stated that the winner had endured “tremendous personal costs” due to her valiant effort, adding that she had been detained 13 times, found guilty five times, and received a cumulative sentence of 31 years in jail and 154 lashes.

“Narges Mohammadi is a lady who fights for freedom and human rights. The Norwegian Nobel Committee wishes to honor her valiant struggle for freedom, democracy, and human rights in Iran by presenting her with this year’s Nobel Peace Prize, according to the website.

According to sources, she is currently incarcerated in Tehran, serving a number of sentences for offenses like disseminating propaganda against the government.
