The Russian Defence Ministry reported on Tuesday that the Sukhoi SU-34 bomber crashed in the Caucasus highlands during a regular training flight, most likely owing to a technical malfunction, killing the crew.
The Defence Ministry went on to say, “In the Republic of North Ossetia-Alania, in a mountainous area, an Su-34 aircraft of the Russian Aerospace Forces crashed during a scheduled training flight”.
“The plane crashed in a deserted area in the Caucasus. There is no destruction on the ground. The crew was killed”, the ministry added.
It was not immediately clear how many passengers were aboard.
The Sukhoi Su-34 is a Soviet-built Russian all-weather supersonic medium-range fighter bomber.
