Congress MP Shashi Tharoor, leading India’s all-party parliamentary delegation to Guyana under the Operation Sindoor global outreach campaign, directly called out Pakistan’s complicity in cross-border terrorism.
Addressing questions about the recent Pahalgam terror attack, Tharoor pointed to The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Lashkar-e-Taiba, and revealed the presence of uniformed Pakistani military and police personnel at a terrorist’s funeral.
“I showed photographic evidence of their presence,” Tharoor posted on X, adding that the statement led to a ‘substantive and positive’ discussion on recent developments.
The Indian MPs addressed Guyana’s legislative chamber, articulating their unified stand against terrorism and affirming India’s right to self-defence.
“Each of the MPs spoke of the terrorism inflicted on India and our resolve to defend ourselves,” Tharoor wrote.
The delegation also signed the official visitors’ book and joined the Speaker of the National Assembly for lunch.
Tributes To Mahatma Gandhi & Indian Indentured Labourers
The delegation offered floral tributes at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi in a central Georgetown park.
“It was fitting to honour the apostle of peace,” Tharoor noted, emphasising India’s preference for peace despite being targeted by cross-border terrorism.
The MPs also visited the SS Whitby Memorial, commemorating the first ship that carried indentured Indian labourers to Guyana in 1838.
Tharoor highlighted the harsh conditions endured by the migrants and praised their descendants for building a vibrant, multicultural society in Guyana. ‘Pranaams to them’, he wrote.
Delegation Meet With Guyanese President Strengthens Bilateral Ties
On Monday, the delegation met President Mohamed Irfaan Ali, who hosted a special dinner celebrating the growing India-Guyana friendship and shared global goals.
BJP MP Bhubaneswar Kalita also shared a post on X, acknowledging the warm reception and noting that the evening reflected ‘celebration of friendship and shared aspirations’.
The Indian delegation took part in Guyana’s 59th Independence Day celebrations in Berbice.
Tharoor described it as a lively and inclusive event featuring cultural performances, fireworks, and the midnight flag-hoisting ceremony.
“The Indian MPs were honoured by public acknowledgement of our presence,” he added.
During his address, President Ali announced that Guyana would hold general elections on September 1. After his speech, he personally greeted the delegation.

Their presence underscores a unified Indian political front in combating terrorism and strengthening international partnerships through Operation Sindoor.
