Scientists Discover Increased Activity In Human Brain Just Before Death

Currently, a small study has generated preliminary evidence of elevated brain activity during the dying process

The mysteries of death and what happens before, during, and after a person dies have long confounded human thought.

Numerous studies and trials have examined how death affects the physical and psychological well-being of humans.

Currently, a small study has generated preliminary evidence of elevated brain activity during the dying process, which may be related to consciousness.

The University of Michigan in the US have discovered, two people’s brains were shown to become more active as they got closer to passing away. Similar spikes in brain activity that had previously been seen in animals whose hearts had stopped beating are comparable to this incident.

Researchers looked at four people who died while being monitored with EEGs as a result of substantial brain hemorrhage and anoxic injury caused by cardiac arrest.

Following the removal of ventilator support, two of these patients experienced a spike in gamma wave activity associated with consciousness.

Michigan researchers revealed that in the dying human brain, gamma oscillations become more neurophysiologically interconnected and related.

“These findings compelled us to explore brain neuronal activity in dying patients before and after the clinical removal of ventilatory assistance”, said researchers.

Jimo Borjigin and colleagues write in their new research, “All analyses were carried out with close attention to previously reported parallel changes in Electrocardiogram(ECG) signals”.
