PM Modi with Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud
The Crown Prince and Prime Minister of Saudi Arabia, Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, who is on a State visit to India until September 11, will attend the G20 Summit, the Ministry of External Affairs announced today.
Starting today, India is hosting the two-day G20 Leaders Summit in the national capital at the recently inaugurated Bharat Mandapam. The Summit began at 9:30 a.m. when world leaders arrived at the location (Bharat Mandapam).
The theme of this year’s G20 Summit, which is being hosted by India, is ‘Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam’, which translates as ‘One Earth – One Family – One Future’.
According to a statement from the Ministry of External Affairs, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince has visited India at the request of Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A high-level team, comprising Ministers and senior officials, is accompanying Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud.
On September 11, Saudi Arabia’s Prime Minister will meet with President Droupadi Murmu.
Mohammed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud will meet with Prime Minister Narendra Modi in a bilateral encounter, and both leaders will co-chair the Strategic Partnership Council’s First Leaders’ meeting.
The two leaders will discuss the progress made by the Strategic Partnership Council’s two Ministerial Committees( the Committee on Political, Security, Social, and Cultural Cooperation and the Committee on Economy and Investment Cooperation).
PM Modi and the Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia will cover all aspects of bilateral relations, including political, security, defence, trade and economic, cultural, and people-to-people relationships. Both presidents will also speak about regional and international topics of mutual concern.
Previously, Saudi Arabia’s Crown Prince paid a State visit to India in February 2019, and this will be his second State visit to the country.
“Historically, India and Saudi Arabia have had close and friendly relations with extensive people-to-people contacts”, said the External Affairs Ministry.
According to the External Affairs Ministry, commerce between the two countries reached an all-time high of USD 52.75 billion in fiscal year 2022-23.
Saudi Arabia’s second-largest trading partner is India, whereas India’s fourth-largest trading partner is Saudi Arabia. Both countries have a strong collaboration in the energy sector.
According to the MEA, Saudi Arabia has a thriving Indian community of over 2.4 million people. Their contribution to the growth of the host country, as well as their role as bridges to expand the two countries’ multidimensional ties, is much recognized. Every year, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia sponsors the Hajj pilgrimage of around 175,000 Indians.
