Russia stated on Saturday that it has shot down four US-made ATACMS long-range missiles recently delivered by Washington to Kviv over the Moscow-annexed Crimean peninsula.
The defence ministry stated it had foiled the nocturnal attack, but did not say whether the falling debris had caused any damage.
In April, the United States revealed that it had deployed these missiles to Ukraine, which had requested that they be used to strike targets far beyond the front line.
Ukraine fired US-made ATACMS missiles against Russia for the first time in October, although the latest versions have a longer range of up to 300 kilometres (190 miles).
Russia insists that these missiles will not substantially alter the outcome of the war.
Ammunition shortages have plagued Ukrainian forces for months, exacerbated by months-long delays in US deliveries that were only resolved last month after Congress approved an aid package.
