Moscow announced on Sunday that its military had foiled a Ukrainian plot to use 25 drones to strike Russia-annexed Crimea overnight.
“Sixteen Ukrainian UAVs were destroyed by air defence fire”, the Russian defence ministry stated, referring to unmanned aerial vehicles.
“Another nine Ukrainian drones were suppressed by electronic warfare and crashed into the Black Sea without reaching the target”, the ministry claimed, adding that no one was killed.
Crimea, which Russia annexed in 2014, has been attacked by Kyiv throughout Moscow’s Ukraine offensive, but has been subjected to more intensive, intensified attacks in recent weeks.
Kyiv has stated repeatedly that it intends to retake Crimea.
Separately, three Ukrainian drones were shot down above Moscow early Sunday, according to the Russian defence ministry. The attack destroyed two office skyscrapers and caused a brief closure of an international airport.
