Putin and Zelenskyy Extend Invitations to PM Modi Post-Elections, Recognizing India as Peacemaker

Prime Minister Narendra Modi engaged in discussions with both Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Russian President Vladimir Putin against the backdrop of Putin’s recent reelection and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine conflict. Sources revealed that both leaders expressed their view of India as a potential peacemaker.

Following his conversations with Zelenskyy and Putin, both of whom extended invitations for him to visit their respective countries after the Lok Sabha elections, Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to fostering peace and dialogue. He emphasized India’s people-centric approach and advocated for diplomatic resolutions to the ongoing conflict.

During his call with Putin, Prime Minister Modi congratulated him on his reelection and expressed mutual interest in strengthening the longstanding India-Russia ‘Special and Privileged Strategic Partnership’. Both leaders affirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral cooperation in various domains.

India’s stance on the Russia-Ukraine conflict underscores the importance of diplomacy and dialogue, as emphasized by the Ministry of External Affairs. India seeks continuous engagement to facilitate a peaceful resolution to the conflict, which commenced with Russia’s full-scale invasion in February 2022.

Vladimir Putin’s landslide victory in the Presidential elections solidifies his position, marking his fourth term in office. However, the elections have drawn criticism from the West for being undemocratic.

Meanwhile, Ukraine has urged the US Congress to expedite a stalled $60 billion aid package, crucial for addressing the humanitarian crisis resulting from the conflict. Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba expressed dismay over the delays, emphasizing the urgent need for assistance.
