The long-running rumour that King Charles III is not actually his father was recently addressed by Prince Harry, who added that the claim had caused him much suffering over the years. The Duke of Sussex stated in court testimony on June 6 that he worried British tabloid media wanted to establish that his father was Major James Hewitt in order to have him “ousted” from the royal family.
Sues Mirror Group
It is noteworthy that the Duke of Sussex is suing Mirror Group Newspapers for allegedly utilising unethical means, such phone hacking, to get information needed to publish news stories about him. One of these was a piece that appeared in The People in 2002 with the headline, “Plot to Rob the DNA of Harry.”
Princess Diana’s relationship began after Harry was born
Following his mother’s admission that she had an affair with James Hewitt, Prince Harry remarked that various newspapers published a myth claiming that James Hewitt was his biological father. Prince Harry underlined the lies in the witness statement, pointing out that his mother’s relationship with James Hewitt didn’t begin until long after he was born.
Harry calls such stories damaging
In the written statement he said, “Never mind that my mother didn’t meet Major Hewitt until long after I was born, the story was simply too good to drop. At the time, when I was 18 years old and had lost my mother [Princess Diana] just six years earlier, stories such as this felt very damaging and very real to me.”
Prince Feared being ousted from Royal Family
‘They were hurtful, mean, and cruel. I was always left questioning the motives behind the stories. Were the newspapers keen to put doubt into the minds of the public so that I might be ousted from the Royal Family?”, he added. It is noteworthy that Prince Harry addressed the rumour in his autobiography, “Spare.” King Charles, according to him, would frequently crack rude and offensive jokes about not being his biological father.
Mr. Hewitt denounced such reports
The Independent claims that Mr. Hewitt, a former cavalry officer in the British Army, had a renowned romance with Princess Diana in the middle of the 1990s. From 1986 through 1991, the relationship lasted for five years. She met Mr. Hewitt in 1984, two years before Prince Harry was born. Mr. Hewitt had similarly denounced such reports in 2017 by only replying, “No, I’m not.” Prince Harry’s biological father.
