The decision to substitute India with Bharat in President Droupadi Murmu’s invitation to international leaders has caused a massive political uproar.
Additionally, this has led to rumors that the special session of Parliament that will be conducted later this month is intended to formally support the campaign to rename India as Bharat.
In a G20 pamphlet titled ‘Bharat, The Mother Of Democracy’ and intended for foreign delegates, the word ‘Bharat’ is also used. Bharat is the country’s official name. It is mentioned in the Constitution as well as the 1946-48 debates, according to the booklet.
The opposition has launched a stinging attack on the government over the matter. INDIA bloc members have accused the Narendra Modi government of distorting history and dividing India.
In a stinging retort, BJP leaders denounced the opposition as being anti-national and anti-constitutional. They referred to Article 1 of the Constitution.
According to Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, the choice to use the word ‘Bharat’ is a strong protest against the colonial attitude.
“This should have happened a long time ago. It brings me a lot of pleasure. ‘Bharat’ is our introduction and we are proud of it”, he added.
