Nepal's newly appointed PM ‘Prachanda’ with Ex-PM Oli

New Nepal Government: Maoist chief Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ is now Nepal’s new Prime Minister. Prachanda is known for leading the decade-long armed struggle in the country from the year 1996 to 2006 which finally concluded with the signing of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

CPN (Maoist Centre) chairman, Pushpa Kamal Dahal ‘Prachanda’ has joined hands with the prime rival party which offered him a better deal.  KP Sharma Oli led Communist Party of Nepal-Unified Marxist Leninist (CPN-UML) coming together with Pranchada party showed their upper hand with the support of some other smaller parties. now the CPN with CPN-UML have appointed Prachanda as the new Prime Minister of the country.

Prior to this significant political development, Prachanda had on Sunday walked out of a pre-poll five-party alliance which was led by Nepali Congress president and outgoing Prime Minister Sher Bahadur Deuba.

Claiming the support of 170 parliamentarians who come from six parties along with garnering four Independents, Prachanda has required number in the 275-member House.

Oli’s timely support to Prachanda

November month’s general elections in Nepal proved in vain since they failed to produce a clear winner. Resultantly, the Nepali Congress appeared as the single largest party with 89 seats, whereas the CPN-MC and CPN-UML have 32 and 78 seats respectively in the polls.

 The Prez office confirms the new government

The President’s office in its statement says as per Article 76(2) of the Constitution Prachanda has been appointed as the new Prime Minister of Nepal which is going to be his third time in office. Now he will be taking oath on Monday.

As per a media report, Oli and Prachanda have reached an understanding and now both of the parties are going to lead the government on rotation basis. Henceforth, KP Oli agreed to make Prachanda the PM in the first round in accordance with his demand. Sitting on the PM chair in the first round was the same demand which was refused by Sher Bahadur Deuba.
