Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted discussions with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen in Oslo on Tuesday, with an emphasis on enhancing bilateral cooperation and expanding engagement across crucial sectors.
Senior Indian officials present at the meeting included External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri.
The two leaders reflected on their earlier interaction, including a telephone conversation held in September last year, during which they reiterated their shared resolve to advance the India-Denmark Green Strategic Partnership.
This partnership prioritises cooperation in renewable energy, climate initiatives and sustainable growth, aligning with the long-term goals of both countries.
Earlier the same day, PM Modi also held separate meetings with Iceland’s Prime Minister Kristrún Mjöll Frostadóttir and Finland’s Prime Minister Petteri Orpo in Oslo.
These interactions took place in the lead-up to the forthcoming India-Nordic Summit, which seeks to strengthen India’s partnerships with Nordic nations.
As per the Ministry of External Affairs, “The Summit will build upon the two previous Summits held in Stockholm in April 2018 and in Copenhagen in May 2022, and will impart a more strategic dimension to India’s relationship with the Nordic countries, especially in technology and innovation; green transition and renewable energy; sustainability; blue economy; defence; space and the Arctic.”
The summit will further elevate cooperation in key areas of mutual interest.
PM Modi reached Norway as part of the fourth phase of his five-nation tour. Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Gahr Store personally welcomed him at the airport in a notable gesture.
On Monday, the two leaders held comprehensive discussions covering bilateral relations along with regional and global matters, agreeing to deepen collaboration in trade, investment, blue economy, circular economy, renewable energy, education, science and technology, artificial intelligence, space and Arctic affairs.
Why the Nordic Outreach Matters
These high-level meetings underline India’s increasing efforts to broaden its strategic engagement with Nordic countries.
The visit is expected to open new avenues for cooperation in emerging sectors while addressing shared global challenges through joint initiatives.
