Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Netherlands Prime Minister Rob Jetten on Sunday visited the iconic Afsluitdijk Dam, with the Indian leader praising the Netherlands for its pioneering work in water management and climate resilience.
Following the visit, PM Modi said the Netherlands had set a global example in water resource management and noted that countries around the world could learn from its expertise.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “An area in which the Netherlands has done pioneering work is water resources. There is a lot the entire global community can learn from them.”
The Prime Minister added that India was working to adopt modern technologies for irrigation, flood control and expansion of inland waterways.

Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said the visit highlighted the relevance of Dutch expertise for India’s Kalpasar Project in Gujarat.
“A symbol of engineering excellence and innovation! Accompanied by PM Rob Jetten of the Netherlands, PM @narendramodi visited the iconic Afsluitdijk Dam, a symbol of Dutch excellence in water management, flood protection and freshwater storage,” Jaiswal wrote on X.
The MEA spokesperson added that the visit underscored opportunities for deeper cooperation between India and the Netherlands in climate resilience, water technology and sustainable infrastructure.

Talks at The Hague
On Saturday, PM Modi held talks with Rob Jetten at the Catshuis in The Hague, where both leaders agreed to elevate bilateral relations to a ‘Strategic Partnership’.
According to the Ministry of External Affairs, the two sides agreed on an ambitious roadmap to deepen cooperation in trade, investment, defence, renewable energy, maritime affairs, education and emerging technologies, including AI and semiconductors.
The leaders also discussed expanding collaboration in water, agriculture and health under the WAH partnership framework and strengthening cooperation on large-scale water projects.
PM Modi also thanked the Netherlands government for facilitating the return of the 11th-century Chola copper plates and welcomed collaboration between Leiden University Library and the Archaeological Survey of India.
