Prime Minister Narendra Modi will begin his three-day visit to Australia on Wednesday at the invitation of Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, marking another milestone in the growing India-Australia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership. He will visit Melbourne from July 8 to 10, with the trip expected to boost cooperation in trade, defence, technology and regional security.
During the visit, PM Modi will hold bilateral talks with Prime Minister Albanese and meet Australia’s Governor-General Sam Mostyn.
Both leaders will discuss ways to expand strategic cooperation and strengthen collaboration in the Indo-Pacific.
PM Modi will also take part in the India-Australia CEOs Forum, where he will interact with top business leaders from both countries to explore new investment and commercial opportunities. He will also address a large gathering of the Indian diaspora in Melbourne, highlighting the community’s role in strengthening cultural and economic ties.
Ahead of the visit, Albanese called India one of Australia’s most important economic partners and praised its position as the world’s fourth-largest and fastest-growing economy. He said he looked forward to welcoming PM Modi for the Annual Leaders’ Summit and further strengthening the partnership.
The Indian community in Melbourne also welcomed the visit by organising a Vedic Havan ahead of PM Modi’s arrival.
India’s High Commissioner to Australia, Nagesh Singh, said PM Modi’s third visit to Australia in 10 years reflects the rapid growth of bilateral relations. He said the partnership, elevated to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2020, now covers defence, trade, clean energy, education, skills, mobility, emerging technologies and people-to-people ties.
