Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday expressed gratitude to Swedish Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson for personally receiving him at Gothenburg Airport and said he looked forward to strengthening ties between India and Sweden during his visit.

PM Modi arrived in Sweden after concluding his visit to the Netherlands, where he held talks with Dutch Prime Minister Rob Jetten, met the royal family and interacted with members of the Indian community.

“I’m grateful to Prime Minister Kristersson for the special gesture of coming to receive me at Gothenburg airport. Looking forward to boosting India-Sweden friendship in this important visit,” PM Modi posted on X after arriving in Sweden.

Taking to X, MEA Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal posted, “God eftermiddag, Sverige! Prime Minister @narendramodi has arrived in Gothenburg, Sweden. This is PM Modi’s second visit to Sweden.”

The post stated that Prime Minister Ulf Kristersson received PM Narendra Modi at the airport. It added that the Swedish Prime Minister accorded him a special welcome upon his arrival.

MEA Spokesperson further added, “Sweden is an important partner for India in areas including technology, sustainability, innovation and R&D. The visit by Prime Minister Modi to Sweden will impart fresh momentum to the India-Sweden relationship.”

Swedish Gripen fighter jets escorted PM Modi’s aircraft as it entered Swedish airspace.

According to the Ministry of External Affairs, Prime Ministers Modi and PM Kristersson will review the entire spectrum of bilateral relations and discuss new opportunities to expand cooperation and trade.

Bilateral trade between India and Sweden has reached $7.75 billion in 2025, while Swedish foreign direct investment into India stood at $2.825 billion during 2000–2025.

The two leaders will likely address the European Round Table for Industry along with Ursula von der Leyen.

PM Modi had earlier visited Sweden in 2018 for the first-ever India-Nordic Summit.
