Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a formal ceremonial reception in Rome on Wednesday before engaging in delegation-level talks with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni at Villa Pamphili.
The discussions focused on strengthening ties between India and Italy, with both leaders exploring ways to boost collaboration in trade, investment and other key sectors. They also reviewed ongoing geopolitical developments and shared perspectives on global challenges.
The Indian delegation included External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, and other high-ranking officials who participated in the talks.
Before the formal meeting, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni warmly welcomed Prime Minister Narendra Modi and accorded him military honours.
After the discussions, both leaders will attend a working lunch with leading industrial figures from India and Italy to promote stronger business partnerships.
Earlier in the day, Prime Minister Modi met Sergio Mattarella, where the two leaders discussed multiple aspects of bilateral relations, including economic cooperation, investment opportunities and cultural exchanges.
As part of his itinerary, Prime Minister Modi is scheduled to visit the Food and Agriculture Organisation before wrapping up his visit to Italy. He had earlier travelled to Italy in June 2024 to participate in the G7 Summit 2024.
The visit highlights India’s commitment to deepening its partnership with Italy through continued diplomatic dialogue and economic engagement, paving the way for stronger cooperation across multiple sectors.
