Prime Minister Narendra Modi received a ceremonial guard of honour upon his arrival in Abu Dhabi on Friday as he began the first leg of his five-nation diplomatic tour.
The visit marks another important step in strengthening the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between India and the United Arab Emirates.
Earlier, UAE F16 fighter jets escorted PM Modi’s aircraft as it entered the country’s airspace, highlighting the close ties between the two nations.
PM Modi will hold high-level talks with UAE President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on trade, investment, energy security, technology, culture and people-to-people ties.
The Ministry of External Affairs said the visit will further strengthen trade and investment ties between India and the UAE, one of India’s key strategic partners in the Gulf region.
India and the UAE are likely to sign two MoUs on LPG and strategic petroleum reserves during the visit. The agreements will strengthen India’s energy security and deepen bilateral cooperation in the energy sector.
The MEA said the UAE is India’s third-largest trading partner and the seventh-largest source of foreign investment, while over 4.5 million Indians live in the Gulf nation.
MEA Secretary (West) said both leaders will discuss deeper cooperation across sectors, especially energy security.
The visit follows recent high-level exchanges and is expected to further strengthen economic, strategic and diplomatic ties between India and the UAE.
