Prime Minister Narendra Modi met former Mauritius Prime Minister Pravind Kumar Jugnauth on Wednesday, engaging in discussions on expanding cooperation between the two nations.
PM Modi described their meeting as ‘wonderful’ and focused on deepening collaboration across various sectors.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also met Georges Pierre Lesjongard, MP and Leader of the Opposition in Mauritius, where they exchanged views on strengthening bilateral relations.
Their discussions emphasized reinforcing the strong friendship between India and Mauritius.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi extended his best wishes to the people of Mauritius on their National Day and expressed his excitement to be part of the celebrations.
The Prime Minister also reflected on key moments of his visit, including the warm welcome and his meeting with Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam.
Earlier on Tuesday, PM Modi and PM Ramgoolam held discussions on deepening bilateral relations and exploring new opportunities to strengthen their special partnership.
PM Modi reaffirmed India’s role as a trusted development partner of Mauritius and emphasized collaboration to advance the interests of the Global South.
Later, PM Modi attended a banquet dinner hosted by PM Ramgoolam, where he underlined the close ties between the two nations.
“Our relationship knows no boundaries, and together, we will continue working for the well-being of our people and regional security,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated.
During the visit, PM Modi recalled introducing the SAGAR vision during his last trip to Mauritius, highlighting its importance in regional security and maritime cooperation.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s commitment to its ‘close maritime neighbor and important partner’ in the Indian Ocean.
Mauritius Honors PM Modi
In a significant gesture, PM Ramgoolam conferred Mauritius’ highest honor, ‘The Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean’, on PM Modi.
Prime Minister Modi became the first Indian to receive this award, marking his 21st international recognition.
Additionally, PM Modi met Mauritius President Dharambeer Gokhool at the State House, where he handed over OCI (Overseas Citizenship of India) cards to the President and First Lady Brinda Gokhool.
The meeting highlighted the historical and cultural ties that continue to strengthen the India-Mauritius partnership.
PM Modi’s visit reaffirmed India’s commitment to fostering deep-rooted connections with Mauritius, built on shared history, values, and a vision for mutual progress.
