Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday presented the Made in India Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) PS LESPWAR, six ambulances, ten utility vehicles and five laser radial boats to Seychelles. He reaffirmed India’s commitment to strengthening bilateral defence cooperation and development assistance.
PM Modi handed over the assets to Seychelles President Patrick Herminie during a ceremony at the Seychelles Coast Guard Base in Victoria on the opening day of his State Visit.
The Fast Patrol Vessel, constructed by Goa Shipyard Limited, will strengthen Seychelles’ maritime surveillance and enhance patrol operations across its Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ).
The MEA also announced that India supplied six ambulances, ten utility vehicles and five laser radial boats to support Seychelles’ public services, development and national security. It said the assistance aligns with India’s Vision MAHASAGAR, under which both countries continue expanding their robust defence partnership while promoting peace, stability and security across the Indian Ocean Region.
Prime Minister Modi arrived in Seychelles as the Guest of Honour for the country’s Golden Jubilee National Day celebrations. He aims to further strengthen bilateral ties.
Following the national anthems, Prime Minister Modi and President Patrick Herminie inspected the ceremonial Guard of Honour. They also received a military salute.
The Prime Minister witnessed a traditional Seychellois moutya dance.
Members of the Seychellois Indian diaspora from Kutch, Gujarat, then performed the folk dance Nrutya to celebrate their cultural heritage.
This marks Prime Minister Modi’s second State Visit to Seychelles.
Earlier this year, President Herminie visited India.
Ahead of the visit, the President’s Office described India as one of Seychelles’ closest development partners. It highlighted cooperation in infrastructure, healthcare, education, community development and regional security since diplomatic relations began in 1976.
