Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Seychelles President Patrick Herminie on Saturday visited the National Botanical Garden in Victoria shortly after the Prime Minister began his three-day State Visit to Seychelles.
The visit formed part of PM Modi’s engagements during the Golden Jubilee celebrations of Seychelles’ National Day, where he is attending as the Guest of Honour.
The two leaders toured the renowned botanical garden and explored its rich biodiversity.
PM Modi enthusiastically fed several giant tortoises, including Jonathan, the 194-year-old giant tortoise recognised as the world’s oldest living land animal.
The leaders also planted a sapling inside the botanical garden, symbolising the enduring friendship between India and Seychelles.
Staff members guided them through the gardens and explained the unique flora and fauna preserved at the national landmark.
Earlier, President Patrick Herminie, senior Ministers, and dignitaries welcomed PM Modi at the airport with special honours.
Traditional cultural performances, including a dance from Kutch, greeted the Prime Minister on his arrival.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “Amazing cultural connect! The welcome at the airport in Seychelles included a dance from Kutch. The manner in which our diaspora has preserved and celebrated culture from different parts of India is appreciable.”

After landing, the Prime Minister thanked President Herminie and the Indian diaspora for the warm reception.
“Landed in Seychelles. Deeply appreciate the warm welcome extended at the airport by Dr. Patrick Herminie. Seychelles is a valued maritime partner and a close friend in the Indian Ocean. Looking forward to a productive visit aimed at further strengthening our longstanding ties and enhancing cooperation for the benefit of the people of our nations,” PM Modi posted.

PM Modi shared another photograph with President Patrick Herminie while travelling to the National Botanical Garden.
