Prime Minister Narendra Modi concluded his high-level visit to Canada on Tuesday after participating in the G7 Outreach Summit held at the Pomeroy Kananaskis Mountain Lodge.
Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney personally received PM Modi at the venue, symbolising a fresh chapter in India-Canada ties.
During the summit, PM Modi held multiple bilateral and multilateral discussions, reiterating India’s commitment to global cooperation.
The summit brought together leaders of the G7 nations—France, United States, United Kingdom, Germany, Japan, Italy, Canada—and the European Union, along with invited outreach partners.
PM Modi used the opportunity to advance India’s foreign policy priorities, especially in the context of the Global South.
He engaged in substantive conversations with global leaders including UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer, French President Emmanuel Macron, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, European Council President Antonio Costa, South African President Cyril Ramaphosa, Brazilian President Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva, Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese, and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
These discussions focused on shared concerns such as cross-border terrorism, energy security, climate sustainability, and the nexus between artificial intelligence and innovation.
Prime Minister Modi reiterated India’s proactive role in fostering global peace, stability, and development.
Highlighting India’s commitment to represent the Global South, PM Modi shared on his X handle: “Landed in Calgary, Canada, to take part in the G7 Summit. Will be meeting various leaders at the Summit and sharing my thoughts on important global issues. Will also be emphasising the priorities of the Global South.”
The visit came in the backdrop of India’s recent Operation Sindoor, aimed at neutralising terror infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir, further underlining India’s security concerns on the global stage.
Before departing for Croatia, PM Modi expressed gratitude to the Canadian government and its people for hosting the summit.
“Concluding a productive Canada visit. Thankful to the Canadian people and Government for hosting a successful G7 Summit, which witnessed fruitful discussions on diverse global issues. We remain committed to furthering global peace, prosperity and sustainability,” he posted.
PM Modi has now departed for Zagreb, Croatia, marking the final leg of his three-nation tour.
The visit is aimed at strengthening bilateral ties, thanking partner countries for their support in the fight against terrorism, and enhancing international cooperation across key sectors.
This tour continues to position India as a key voice in global policy discussions, reinforcing its stature as a leader committed to multilateral engagement and sustainable development.
