Prime Minister Narendra Modi left Mauritius after completing a successful visit marked by key discussions, cultural engagements, and strengthening ties with the Indian diaspora.
During his stay, PM Modi held discussions with leaders and interacted with the Indian community, reaffirming India’s deep-rooted ties with the island nation.
On Wednesday, PM Modi visited the sacred Ganga Talao in Mauritius, where he offered prayers and poured holy water from the Prayagraj Maha Kumbh into the lake.
The gesture symbolized the enduring spiritual and cultural connections between India and Mauritius.
Earlier in the day, PM Modi was conferred the Grand Commander of the Order of the Star and Key of the Indian Ocean, Mauritius’ highest national award.
Despite heavy rain, thousands of people gathered to witness the momentous occasion on the country’s National Day.
While receiving the award, Prime Minister Narendra Modi stated, “I express my heartfelt gratitude for being conferred the highest national award of Mauritius. This is not just my honour, it is the honour of 1.4 billion Indians. It is a tribute to the centuries old cultural and historical bonds of kinship between India and Mauritius. It is an acknowledgement of our said commitment to regional peace, progress, security and sustainable development. And it is a symbol of the shared hopes and aspirations of the global south.”
PM Modi and Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam engaged in discussions covering a wide range of bilateral cooperation.
Both leaders agreed to elevate India-Mauritius relations to an ‘Enhanced Strategic Partnership, expanding collaboration in key areas such as infrastructure, housing, digital technology, healthcare, artificial intelligence, and sustainability.
Taking to X, PM Modi posted, “On the special occasion of Mauritius’ National Day, I had the opportunity to meet my good friend, PM Navinchandra Ramgoolam and discuss the full range of India-Mauritius friendship.
