Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday said he was “deeply touched” by the warm welcome extended by Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto, who personally received him at the airport in Jakarta as the Prime Minister began his three-day State Visit to Indonesia.

This is PM Modi’s first bilateral visit to Indonesia since the two countries elevated their relationship to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in 2018. He said the visit would help provide greater momentum to bilateral cooperation across multiple sectors while also strengthening cultural ties.

In a post on X, PM Modi said he looked forward to holding discussions with President Prabowo Subianto to strengthen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership further.

He also said both leaders would visit the Prambanan Temple complex in Yogyakarta, describing it as an important symbol of the close cultural ties between India and Indonesia.

The Prime Minister also expressed his eagerness to interact with the Indian community during his stay in Indonesia.

Grand Welcome In Jakarta

According to the Ministry of External Affairs spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal, President Prabowo Subianto, accompanied by four ministers, welcomed PM Modi at the airport. The Prime Minister also witnessed a cultural performance on arrival, while Indonesian Air Force fighter jets escorted his aircraft after it entered Indonesian airspace.

In his departure statement, PM Modi noted that he was visiting Indonesia from July 6-8 at the invitation of President Prabowo Subianto.

He recalled that the two countries elevated ties during his 2018 visit and said the current visit follows President Prabowo’s State Visit to India as the Chief Guest for the Republic Day celebrations on January 26, 2025.

Indonesia is the first stop of PM Modi’s three-nation tour, which will also include Australia and New Zealand.
