Earlier in Tokyo, PM Modi held discussions with governors of 16 Japanese prefectures, stressing the transformative scope of inter-regional cooperation in trade, innovation, start-ups, and new technologies.

“This morning in Tokyo, interacted with the Governors of 16 prefectures of Japan. State-prefecture cooperation is a vital pillar of India-Japan friendship. This is also why a separate initiative on it was launched during the 15th Annual India-Japan Summit yesterday. There is immense scope to cooperate in areas like trade, innovation, entrepreneurship and more. Futuristic sectors like Startups, tech and AI too can be beneficial,” PM Modi posted on X.

This initiative, known as the ‘State-Prefecture Partnership Initiative’, seeks to build stronger economic integration and encourage collaboration in skills, investment, and innovation at the regional level.

During the exchanges, PM Modi underlined the need to build direct connections between Indian states and Japanese regions, particularly in technology, innovation, investment, skill development, start-ups, and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs).

In addition, both countries announced an ‘Artificial Intelligence (AI) initiative’ to promote work on Large Language Models, training, and business support aimed at creating a reliable AI ecosystem.

The visit also witnessed the signing of a ‘Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Digital Partnership 2.0’, expanding cooperation in emerging technologies between India and Japan.
